Abstract
Cefotetan is a new and potent 7¥á-methoxy cephalosporin (Cephamycin).
Total 34 cases of gynecologic and obstetric infection were treated with Cefotetan at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, National Medical Center, Seoul, Korea from March 1984 to May 1984.
The results were as follows:
1. Cefotetan was administered in dose of 2g/day intravenously for 4 to 14 days. The average duration of treatment was 8.0 days.
2. The effective rates of Cefotetan based on clinical and bacteriological response were 100% in 4 cases of urinary tract infection, in 3 cases of abscess of Bartholin¢¥s gland and in 3 cases of puerperal infection.
The effective rate of it was 90% in 10 cases of pelvic inflammatory disease and 83.3% in 6 cases of tubo-ovarian abscess.
Three out of 4 cases of wound infection, 1 out of 2 cases of pelvic peritonitis and 1 out of 2 cases of post abortive septicemia responded also satisfactorily to Cefotetan treatment. Overall response rate were 85. 3%.
3. There were no drug-related abnormal findings in urinalysis, hematology and blood chemistry.
4. Any particular side effects were not noted during or after treatment except 2 cases (58. 8%) of rash and diarrhea.
